Plan backward from race day | Custom Screen Printing
The most common mistake is to start with the design. Start with the date, and work backward.
- Race day. Decide when the shirts need to be in your hands, ideally a week or more before packet pickup.
- Printing and shipping. Most orders ship in 5 to 10 business days after approval, so add that and a few days of cushion.
- Proof approval. We send a free digital proof before printing. Give yourself a few days to circulate it to sponsors and your committee.
- Size deadline. Close shirt-size selection at registration, or set a cutoff date, so you can place one accurate order.
- Final artwork. Collect sponsor logos early, since they are the most common cause of delay.
If you work backward like this, a race that wants shirts by a given date should plan to place an order roughly four to six weeks before.

Many races fund themselves through sponsors, and the back of the shirt is where sponsor logos usually go. Send the logos as vector files (SVG, AI) or high-resolution PNGs. Direct-to-film printing with water-based inks handles multi-color logos, which helps when sponsors have strict brand colors.
Volunteers and staff are easier to spot when they wear a different color from the runners. Order a separate color, or the same design in a bright color, and your volunteers will be easy to find at the start, the water stops and the finish.

When should I place my order?
Four to six weeks before the race is a comfortable window. That covers proofing, printing, shipping and a few days of buffer. If you are closer to the date, ask about rush options.
What fabric is best for runners?
Moisture-wicking polyester is the usual choice for participants because it dries quickly. Cotton works for volunteers, walkers and casual events.
Can I add sponsor logos?
Yes. Send them as vector files or high-resolution PNGs and tell us where they should go. We show everything on the proof before printing.
Can volunteers get a different shirt?
Yes. Order a separate color or design for staff and volunteers and tell us the quantities.
